🎄 5 Traditions to Take Part in This Christmas!
Dec 20, 2022Merry Christmas to you and your family!
It’s been another amazing year at Chai and Coaching. I am so thankful that you have been a part of the community. My family and I are taking some time to celebrate to be with family and remember what Christmas is all about - and I hope you have some time to do the same.
I get a lot of questions around Christmas regarding its origins and the meaning of certain traditions. As someone who loves to study culture, it’s funny how things like putting a tree in your house and stringing up lights have become ways to celebrate and remember Christmas.
Christmas is a special time of year because it’s when followers of Lord Jesus remember his birth. If you’re interested in learning more, here is a video that does a great job explaining it.
Over the years, through culture and time, there are lots of different ways people celebrate Christmas with family and friends. If you have the chance to celebrate Christmas with an American this year, I’d highly recommend that you do that. You’ll learn a lot.
Here are 5 fun traditions to take part in this Christmas!
1. Hang Christmas Lights 💡
Hang Christmas lights around your balcony, apartment, desk, or any place that you want to light up. Plug in the lights and enjoy your festive display! These lights help us remember the true light that came at Christmas many years ago.
2. Decorate a Christmas Tree 🎄
The Christmas tree is an important symbol of the holiday season. The tradition of the Christmas tree dates back to the 16th century in Germany, where families would bring a small tree into their home and decorate it as a sign of their faith. It is often placed in a prominent location in the home, such as the living room, and is the focus of many family traditions and gatherings. The Christmas tree is a beloved symbol of the holiday season that brings joy and celebration to homes around the world.
3. Make Christmas Cookies 🍪
Christmas cookies are a special treat that many families love to eat and gift each other this time of year. Some favorites include sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, Russian tea cakes, peppermint bark, and so many more! These are actually quite easy to make at home, but you can also find pre-made ones at any grocery store. If you are feeling festive, try decorating them with friends!
4. Sing Christmas Carols 🎶
Perhaps you’ve heard them playing in the store or mall, but there are so many beautiful songs or carols that are sung during this time of year. These old songs like” Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” is a celebration of the birth of Jesus and are often sung during Christmas services and celebrations. “Away in a Manger” is a simple and sweet song that tells the story surrounding the birth of Jesus. Some other favorites include Joy to the World, O Holy Night, and Silent Night. These carols will get you back to the heart of Christmas.
5. Watch Classic Holiday Movies 🍿
There are so many good ones, but some of my favorites are...
- A Christmas Carol - This is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly old man who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. It is a tale of redemption and the true meaning of Christmas.
- Home Alone - Kevin is accidentally left behind when his family goes on a holiday trip. He must defend his home against burglars while fending for himself!
- Elf - This popular comedy tells the story of Buddy, a human who was raised as an elf at the North Pole. He travels to New York City to find his real father and learns about the true meaning of family and the holiday season.
There are many fun traditions to take part in this Christmas! From hanging lights and decorating trees to singing carols, there are plenty of ways to celebrate with family and friends. If you have the chance to celebrate Christmas with an American this year, I’d highly recommend that you do that. You’ll learn a lot.
Whatever way you choose to celebrate, Merry Christmas!
